Ritual ladle, Chinese, Qing 1644–1911, Chinese Buddhism, ritual vessel with swastikas painted gold. A chain and silk cord with a tassel hang from the handle. Late 19th century, China. Length 57.5 cm., A long black ladle-like object extends across the image, attached at one end to a short black cup with a circular pale yellow decorative motif on its side, and at the other end to a braided tan cord that holds a tassel of coarse light brown fibers and a short rusty metal chain; the background is a uniform dark gray and the surface beneath the objects reflects them faintly.
