Advanced cancer treatment. Surgeons looking at a computed tomography (CT) scan while operating on a patient (in scanner on screen at left). They are using advanced scanning techniques to locate a cancer and deliver treatments directly to the required area. This is known as intralesional treatment. Ultrasound and CT scanning are used, as well as angiography procedures. The cancer is being treated using thermal ablation techniques, heating and burning away cancerous tissue.
