Mauerpark is a green oasis well visited by berliners on a sunny Sunday afternoon, when the Mauerpark Flea market is open. The park is located in the former 'death strip' between the Inner and Outer Walls of the Berlin Border Division. The Outer Border Wall, facing West Berlin, ran along the line of the flea market on the western side of the park. A 30m section of the Inner Wall, used by graffiti artists, follows the slope top in the background of the view. The flood lights rise from the Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Sportpark, which opened in 1952 and became the home of the Dynamo Berlin Football Team. The inner wall here was built higher than usual to deter would-be escapees from the stadium.
