Nicholas U Mayall Telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory, Arizona, USA, during a total lunar eclipse. This image is a composite of hundreds of time-lapse exposures. At centre is a streak which shows the passage of the moon as it passes through the shadow of the Earth (present as a red shadow in the centre of the streak). The other streaks in the sky are star trails and the streaks at ground level come from the headlights of a car driving past.
